Urban Vegetables offer a unique and cost effective service to public sector clients. We will design and install vegetable plots on a not-for-profit basis, ensuring the plot matches the specification and brief exactly. We can also plant the plot with the choice of vegetables required and perform maintenance visits if desired. Urban Vegetables also offer the following services to Public Sector clients:
- informal teaching sessions with the plot users
- organisation of harvest parties and cooking sessions
- maintenance visits to the site after installation to assist with harvest/upkeep etc.
Who can benefit?
We feel there are a number of public sector clients who could benefit from an Urban Vegetables plot.
Schools will receive:
- A source of seasonal, home-grown vegetables to use in the school kitchen (reducing carbon-footprint and increasing healthy-eating)
- An outdoor area for children to learn about horticulture, the environment, healthy-eating and natural processes (in accordance to some of Building Schools for the Future’s objectives)
- An area in which extra-curricular activities can be held
- Free advice, support and information
Registered Social Landlords / Council-owned Housing can receive:
- A source of seasonal, home-grown vegetables for residents to use (reducing carbon-footprint and increasing healthy-eating)
- Informal teaching and guidance sessions with plot users on horticulture, healthy eating, natural processes
- Annual harvest parties
- The means for the local community and residents to pursue a healthy interest which may also lead to increased social inclusion
Unused Land can be transformed:
into productive spaces to provide seasonal produce to the most at-risk local residents
